Judge: Girl's name, Talula Does The Hula, won't do Posted: 6 months ago by AutumnLotus
A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.
Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.

Yay for the system!
She hadn't even told her closest friends her name, insisting she be called 'K'. I mean, having to reduce yourself to a single letter because your parents were twats must be pretty painful.
He should've just taken out 'Does The'. Talula Hula's great.
And some of the other names parents had tried!
Jesus, imagine if they'd let 'Sex Fruit' pass.

Really?
I guess that shows the difficulties of making rules for the whole naming thing.
What sounds great to one person is unacceptable to the other.
Glad the little Hula girl got another name

Ha! Got it to work after all.

Reminds me to the kid that was named Espn after ESPN. I do not think there 2nd kid will be named the Duece or ESPN 2.

Im all for unique names. My kids have somewhat unique names. Maybe unique isnt the right word. Uncommon, would fit better (Marissa and Miles, my oldest has a common name but he was named after his daddy). Parents really need to think the whole naming thing through. I wanted uncommon, but I didnt want my kid to be teased mercilessly because I thought a name sounded cool.

There's unique and unusual, and then there's just plain effing stupid. Unfortunately, some people (including a disproportionate number of celebrities) can't see the difference.

Thank goodness, the poor thing. I'm the first to admit some of the names given to my nieces/nephews make them sound like they should be Ninja Turtles, not children and I'm even more appalled because my siblings think it's funny. Naming your child in txt language or after fast food? Get real!
The registration officials need to step up a bit though, as there are regulations around naming, including no use of punctuation marks, brackets or numbers - which if followed would mean Number 16 Bus Shelter would be having a much easier life right now.
P.S. I hate to be picky - but 'K' was put under guardianship of the court, not made "a ward of the state"... Kinda hard to be a ward of a state that doesn't exist. I know - small stuff - but they could have just added "made the equivilant of..." rather than assuming the culture.
