Wow what an amazing story........for some reason I have respect for someone who can face death with such confidence, though I wish he had committed suicide in a way that didn't involve another person feeling slightly responsible (although they obviously were not.)

Oh my God, that's terrible. I don't know how I would be able to deal with that, tbh.

Note to all the suicidal people out there:

If you're so desperate to off yourself don't be so d*mn selfish and kill yourself in a way that ruins another person's life who has nothing to do with your problems. I will have no respect or pity for you no matter how "sad" your story.

Suicides that will make me want to urinate on your grave:
* Steering head-on into a Mac truck (or on-coming traffic)
* Jumping in front of a manned train, or parking a car on manned train tracks.
* Killing yourself in ANY way that a young child (yours or another) is the most likely candidate to find you first.
* and finally....Suicide by Cop

Find an unused bridge...or use a chainsaw in the privacy of your own home!
Just don't f*** the rest of our lives just because yours is.

I feel so sorry for the man who wrote the article with the only consolation being to say...You didn't kill him, you were just forced to watch his suicide. Sue him for his frickin' life insurance!

A fair number of plimers may have been impacted by the suicide of someone dear to them. As difficult as it was for this engineer to make sense of the insensible, and as much as I applaud his catharsis in telling his story, there are other victims. The young man's family will never be the same. Those who are left behind always wonder what if they had only.... and blame themselves in some measure large or small, no matter how many times they are assured it's not their fault. I urge everyone to take suicidal statements and gestures seriously, and do what you have to do to help the person get help. It's no joke, especially after the fact.

I would have to say that I would sometimes have respect for people who commit suicide by cop, as long as they pick an a*****e cop (and I could direct them to one who lives in Pennsylvania.

What an amazing story.

A few years ago, a 17 year old high school student threw himself in front of a train at my railroad station. Story here. He had mistakenly believed that he had killed his girlfriend, hence his suicide. The memorials at the station were incredible.

Now, his girlfriend is suing the school system over the boy's behavior.

As meggy stated, suicide is NOT painless.

It's not that easy, Fizz. When a person has gotten to that state, that is all they can see. Suicide is very selfish but the person is so blinded by depression, desperation, whatever, that they don't see it. They only see their own pain and will do anything to get away from it.

Suicide has to be one of the worst, most forlorn ways to die. To be in so much pain, physically and/or emotionally that they see no other way.

Truly sad.

I'm not taking anything away from the writer of the story tho.
I can't imagine how I would act if I was him, but I doubt I would do as well.
