civil wars is part of many countries defining moments. it worked for us.

It's still sad to hear about things like this. I hope everything turns out for the best soon, before it gets worse.

I wouldn't call this "a civil war"...it has been going on for dozens upon dozens of years in this area.

this is less a historical moment there than a historical trend...

I wrote this in the first Kosovo independency post, but I should have done it here. Especially because, I have the same question in my mind as topofall does: "Is this just the start?".

Sadly, the Balkan region was always a boiling cauldron (excluding Greece and Bulgaria). Ever since the fall of the Ottoman Empire.(By the way, the Ottoman - European clashes mostly took place there so it became the least developed region of Europe.) Then the 20th century, begins with the Balkan Wars ('12-'13), assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austro-Hungarian Empire that led to WWI, then the pseudo-peace period of the communism, then the Yugoslav Wars(1991-2001). And now this...
The Balkans just deserve a good long peace.
But the big guys doing it again. The US and most of the EU recognize, but Russia,Spain and Romania don't, how nice. I hope it won't develope into something more bigger and horrible.

darn, I forgot to write that I mentioned the assassination becuse it happened in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Serbia is an old European nation and country which is for more than 18 year humiliated by western powers: nato, eu, usa with military power(agressive act of brutal civilian air bombing for 72 days in 1999), economic sanctions and finally recignition of false state kosovo in Serbian own territory.
All these years the Serbs are marked as bad guys in the BBC, CNN and other western media.Now there are more than one million (1.000.000) homeless refugess in Serbia - Serbs deported from Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo - driven out from their homes with no hope to return back.This is not the way the democracy and human rights work.After illegal recognition of independence for Kosovo this is an act of ocuppation and agression in nazi style.I can not blame normal ordinary citizens of USA, Europe and worldwide for that but their goverments
and polititians who are fully corrupted from extreme Albanian terrorist and mafia , and they are a part of al kaida and bin laden.They are making income by heroin, weapons and slaves trade.In fact I personally saw them selling dope in Zurich (Swiss) the middle of the day without any problems to young people.
This is historical turning point in modern history and UN and international law from 1945 when they are formed are no loner in power to do anything.
Now this type of solving problems worldwide by bombing, deploying troops and declare independence
is typical to NATO countries.
And don't be suprised when many countries face similar problems at their doorstep.This virus will spread for sure...
